Hello readers and welcome to the Nektr Blog. Pretty sweet name, right? Okay, enough with the puns. This post is supposed to be about how Nektr came to be, not about puns from the wordsmith. Okay, let’s get to the point. We started the thing so we could help people.
Okay, so that’s a very general statement. To be more specific, we’re passionate about digital marketing and want to use that to help people promote themselves and their business. I could give you the full background on each of the three of us Nektr guys, but we’ve got videos for that (Matt, Justin, Andy).
Did everybody take a break from reading this to watch all three of those videos? No? Just me? Got it. Here’s the quick version:
Matt Anderson Hailing from Princeton, Minnesota, Matt has a pretty good knowledge of this area having spent his college days at Northern State University in Aberdeen. He’s been in the marketing and social media game for 10+ years with extensive experience orchestrating targeted campaigns for customers. He’s also not bad at brewing his own beer.
Justin Ochsner Born and raised in South Dakota, Justin has more than 10 years experience working in marketing, writing and social media. He was a member of Facebook during his college years at South Dakota State University before the platform was open to the general public. If you get a chance, read one of his articles on FanSided about his beloved Detroit Lions.
Andy Wolf After graduating from Northern State University, Andy has spent time in multiple positions over the past decade from hospitality, food and beverage management all the way up to COO of a company in Arizona. He returned to the Sioux Falls area to bring his experiences in website creation, content management and marketing to new customers. Give him a chance and he might try to impress you with his guitar.
Did I just copy and paste those from our website? Nah, I wouldn’t do something like that. But now that you know a little bit about us, we can get on with the story of how Nektr came into existence.
Matt and Andy went to college together before going their separate ways. Matt then worked with Justin for the past 11 years. Then, at Matt’s bachelor party, Justin met Andy. It’s a “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” kind of thing, but once all three were brought together, the idea of starting a business was hatched.
Andy might say he’d had some experience in websites and video. And knowing the way the world is trending, he knew he needed a little help with the social media side of things. Naturally, he asked Matt to help him out. That’s where Matt suggested bringing Justin into the fold. (Is it weird to write in third-person sometimes and then switch back to first-person? A little, but we’ll just go with it.)
Once all three of us were on board, we started a spreadsheet to keep track of ideas for naming the business. About a month later, all three of us had a 5-hour meeting at Matt’s house where we finally selected a name: Nektr Marketing. We could get into all the details of selecting a name, but that feels like a huge tangent that could be a whole blog post of its own.
We narrowed our focus to helping people get their time back. There are businesses out there that had shared their perspective with us: they know they need to do social media, but they don’t have the time. They’re focusing on the day-to-day aspects of running their business and certain aspects of digital marketing had taken the back seat.
At the end of the day, after moving social media down their to-do lists, social media is sometimes the last thing these business owners wanted to be doing. That’s where we thought we could help. If a business shares their goals, we can help them stay active and relevant on social media while they focus on other things.
But it's not just about giving people their time back. It’s also about doing it correctly; doing it the right way. We’ve got experience and know how to make your digital efforts impactful and effective. Whether its social media, websites, email or blogging, we want to help.
There you have it. The story of Nektr. It didn’t start with “Once upon a time” or anything like that, but when we think about it, it’s kind of like a nursery rhyme to us. But, I’m sure we’ll get over that.
