Are you the face of your brand? Show it!

If you own a small business and are the primary owner, you just might be the face of your brand. Even if you have a group of employees that help you run the business on a day-to-day basis, you should still be showing your face as the owner and personality of your brand. I’m not saying you shouldn’t show your employees and their personalities either, because that would be fantastic! But the owner is the one thing that’s least likely to change year over year.

So, share who you are! In terms of marketing, you can personalize your brand and avoid becoming “just a logo” that people like. Sure, people like logos, but they like PEOPLE as well. How can you make this happen? Social media of course!

Today it is easier than ever to put yourself out there in the social and digital world. Everyone has a camera on their smartphone (as well as all those social media apps). Use it to show you as the star of pictures and videos where you tell people about your business and the market you’re in. You’ll instantly add a face to go with the subject matter you’re talking about, in which you are the expert.

But how?

TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn – all of these platforms allow you to share your message to your target audience. And if you’re not a fan of one site or don’t have time for them all, pick the one that’s most likely to reach your target audience and focus your time there.

Vertical Video Let’s start with vertical video because it fits best with a wide variety of platforms including TikTok, Instagram Reels, Instagram Stories, Facebook Stories, LinkedIn Stories and Snapchat. Simply hold your phone and record yourself talking about what you know! You’re the subject matter expert in your business and you can give your audience helpful tidbits of information to make their decisions easier in your space.

Should someone know how to make moist, decadent muffins? Could they be taking better advice when it comes to their health? Are they missing out on a trick to perform better at a sport? Is there a piece of equipment or tool that will make a job easier? Could they be keeping up with the style trends if they bought a new top?

Share it! Record yourself talking about it and post it to the site you manage. Use the tools available within each platform to spice it up. Tag the city you’re in. Add fitting music. Tailor it to the platform’s native experience and you’ll get your best results.

It can take 5-10 minutes to brainstorm a few ideas and another 5-10 minutes to record and post. It’s not a long process but it could go a long way. Pro tip: if you record natively in a platform, like Snapchat for example, you can download the video and then upload it to other platforms. This makes life a bit easier on you instead of having to record multiple times for multiple platforms.

Become the face of your brand. Be the star of your social media show. Then look for the results to improve as you show your personality goes beyond just a logo.
